Marshes Light Marina

The new centerpiece of Manteo

The Marshes Light Marina is located in historic downtown Manteo, on Roanoke Island, a charming coastal town minutes from North Carolina’s Outer Banks and an alternate route on the Intracoastal Waterway. Originally the sight of the former Salty Dawg Marina (a working marina and boatyard), the Marshes Light Marina was purchased by the Marshes Light LLC investor group in early 2005. The investor group’s managing development partner is Kitty Hawk Land Company, a subsidiary of Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc., a family owned restaurant and real estate development company located in Rocky Mount, NC.

The marina, with 60 slips, provides deep-water access for boats from 25 - 55 feet in length. Future plans for Marshes Light include adding a ship store, fuel dock, cable and Internet services, as well as expanding the marina and boat slips to accommodate larger boats.
There is a great real estate component along with the marina, including waterfront condominiums, single family homes, and future development of residential spaces interspersed with retail stores, and an Inn. You can literally dock your boat outside your door and the location of the marina is in the center of it all. The marina - located southeast of the Alligator River - is a short run to the Oregon Inlet and world class offshore fishing or walking distance to the charming town of Manteo. The proximity of Marshes Light to Manteo, Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks offers boaters a welcome respite from their travels.

The Marina and the waterfront condominiums are connected by a lovely sound side boardwalk to the Town of Manteo that is filled with unique shops, great restaurants, attractions  – making the Marshes Light community and marina a vibrant and fun walkable destination. And the town of Manteo is very much worth the trip. The Manteo town planners are committed to keeping the small-town feel and architectural heritage of Manteo’s historic district. The guidelines are strict but these architectural details help give Manteo it’s small-town look and feel. Manteo now attracts second-home owners and retirees transforming the town from a dying fishing village into a slice of small-town America, a town about as close to Mayberry as you can get (even Andy Griffith has made this place home).

There are lots of things to do when visiting Manteo including major attractions like the North Carolina Aquarium - featuring sharks, alligators, and river otters as well as dive shows, live animal encounters and feeding programs.  The Elizabethan Gardens – beautiful gardens that are open year round and famous for the Sunken Gardens and The Queen’s Rose Garden featuring The Queen Elizabeth Rose which was given to the Gardens by Queen Elizabeth II. The Lost Colony and Roanoke Island Festival Park are also attractions not to miss. Marshes Light is also located next door to the brand new Professional Arts Campus of the College of the Albemarle.

Come see for yourself why this small town has so much to offer boaters. For more information visit: www.marsheslightmarina.com.
