What brought you to work at Lighthouse Point Marina?

Tonja Oasis Gear | Lighthouse Point Marina | Marinalife

As a two-year employee with Oasis Marinas, I started my career at Piney Narrows Yacht Haven on Kent Narrows along Maryland's Eastern Shore. I was then promoted to Lighthouse Point Marina in November 2018. When I came onboard with Oasis, we only had five marinas. Just two years later, we now have more than 20!

What inspired you to pursue this career?

It's really all about the people. I enjoy being with the different slip holders at every marina I have ever worked. Working on the water is a bonus!

What are the advantages or challenges to being a woman in the marina business?

Most marina managers are men, so women have to prove their knowledge. It's often assumed that men always know what they are doing. We girls just need to work a little harder. But once we do, the sky is the limit!

If you weren't working for the marina, what job would suit you best?

I would be a wedding and party planner.

If you could walk in anyone's shoes for a day, who would it be?

Wow, that's a good one. I would walk in Jennifer Lopez's shoes. I think we all can understand why men, women and children so no need to explain!

What is the best safety tip you can give to a new boater?

Go slowly! You can adjust any wrong move by simply going slowly! It's truly the best way to practice your boating skills.

What is your favorite memory on a boat?

Actually, it's at Lighthouse Point! We used to host the storied Baltimore Powerboat Races. It was the place to be, and everyone went there. I am so excited to bring the races back!

Name your top three favorite songs on your boating playlist.

OK, this is hard one! Slide by Goo Goo Dolls, Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and Escape (If You Like Piña Coladas) by Rupert Holmes.

What is the nicest compliment a boater said about your marina?

Recently my team and I were replacing grip tape on a dock and a slip holder came up to us and said, We are all noticing your attention to detail nothing has gone unnoticed! That was pretty great!

What is the one thing that everyone should do or see at your marina?

First, meet our team. They are awesome! Then, check out the amazing pool, Swim Club and new restaurant, Raw & Refined. They are not to be missed!
